Key discussion points

1. How to overcome the fear of public speaking

‘Just feel the fear and do it anyway’. No great speakers started off as a master in public speaking; it took many years of constant trial and error to become world-class presenters. As with anything in life, the more you practise, the better you become. The key is to take the first step.

2. How to build a personal brand

If you want to build a personal brand, then content is king. Your first step is to identify what you are good at and how you can help others. The next step would be to find a social platform to share your message. Lastly, you need to create valuable content that will help your audience. Pavlina recommends using video, as it’s the most engaging form of content for the end user, but if you are a great writer, then blogging can be a better option for you.

3. How to find a great mentor

One of the fastest ways to succeed is to find someone who’s already achieved what you want to achieve and to learn from them. Great mentors will save you years of experimentation and setbacks. That said, truly great mentors are hard to find. Pavlina recommends focusing on just one mentor and then doing whatever it takes to add value to their lives. But the most important part is that you act on your mentors’ advice. If you take no action, they won’t take you seriously and will then stop mentoring you.
